LOUISVILLE, KY (October 24, 2024) — The Office of the Circuit Court Clerk (OCCC) will unveil its newly renovated state-of-the-art District Criminal Division during an open house on Thursday, October 24, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Louis D. Brandeis Hall of Justice, 600 W. Jefferson St., Louisville, KY 40202. This renovation represents a significant investment in the District Criminal Division, which is the largest of the OCCC’s 18 divisions. The upgraded office now boasts modern amenities, including new micro-PCs with dual monitors for each workstation, new cubicles and ergonomic swivel chairs, enhancing efficiency and productivity. Additionally, the overhaul includes new carpeting, paint and energy-efficient LED lighting throughout.
This division, located on the first floor, processes more than 46,000 cases annually, making it a critical component in the administration of justice in Jefferson County. To further illustrate the scope and size of this division, District Criminal handles the lion’s share of Jefferson County’s new cases, which totaled over 110,000 new court cases in 2023 when combining Circuit, Family and District courts. “I am pleased to unveil our newly renovated state-of-the-art District Criminal Division,” said David L. Nicholson, Circuit Court Clerk. “Our office is the busiest Court Clerk’s Office in the Commonwealth, and it is gratifying
that the dedicated and hardworking Deputy Clerk TEAM will be able to perform their important duties as the custodian of the court’s records in a modern, comfortable and efficient environment. “As your elected Circuit Court Clerk, I strive to provide the best service possible to the courts, our justice system partners, attorneys and the citizens of this community. I am very proud of the collaboration that occurred to greatly improve the infrastructure of our District Criminal Division. These improvements could not have been accomplished without the hard work of many entities like Louisville Metro and the Mayor’s Office, Administrative
Office of the Courts, Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, private contractors, and our own internal TEAM. I thank them all.”
The contractor, Miranda Construction, LLC, started work in May of this year, along with ID+A, which was the designer and provider of the office cubicles.
This project is the realization of many goals including modernization, redesigned workflow and preparing the clerk’s office for the future. It will provide a solid foundation for the OCCC to move to a new case management system and electronic case filing platform which are scheduled to be forthcoming.
