The Community and Government Affairs/Media Office serves as the liaison for the Office of the Circuit Court Clerk handling open records requests and community affairs. Media inquiries, responses and official statements are coordinated through this department, including the processing of requests for copies/open records and the scheduling of speaking engagements.

The department also manages relationships and interactions with community organizations including the Donate Life Kentucky Trust. Publications including the quarterly employee newsletter and the Address to the Community (Address to the Community/Annual Report) as well as office notices, brochures and flyers are developed in this office. In addition, this department handles special events and community initiatives coordinated by the employee-driven OC3 Cares Committee, which is responsible for planning fund-raisers and events for local charities. This department also manages the Annual Attorney Survey.

Unpaid Internships

College internships are coordinated through this division. The OCCC Internship Program is a professional in-depth learning opportunity that offers a meaningful, practical experience related to a student’s field of study or career interest typically in law, criminal justice, law enforcement, social work or related fields.

The OCCC’s primary duty is to process, provide and maintain judicial records and information. With 39 elected trial court judges, our office serves the largest jurisdiction in Kentucky’s unified court system and is the Commonwealth’s only true urban court system, operating around the clock every day of the year. The OCCC is comprised of 276 Deputy Clerks who are sworn officers of the court, carrying out the daily responsibilities of the office and supporting the Circuit, Family and District court divisions.

OCCC’s internship program provides a unique opportunity to shadow Deputy Clerks as they serve the public, interacting with customers, attorneys, judges and other justice partners on a daily basis in the largest and busiest courthouse in the state. Providing students the opportunity for career exploration and development, the program exposes them to real-world experiences and helps them expand their knowledge base and learn new skills. Further, it provides valuable networking opportunities with the numerous judicial partners and other community stakeholders.

During their internship, students are provided the opportunity to spend time in several OCCC divisions and sit in on live court proceedings. Internship positions are unpaid/voluntary and are typically part-time. Most of our college interns attend local universities, having been recommended to our office by university advisors.

Additionally, the program affords the OCCC an opportunity to bring fresh energy and new ideas into our office and potentially build a career path for the intern. Over the years, several of our interns have gone on to become full-time OCCC Deputy Clerks.

Please note: It is first-come, first-served, and we have limited slots available each semester.
